Israel threatens to assassinate Mishaal

Monday 21-May-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– The Israeli occupation government has threatened to transfer the battle against Hamas across the borders by threatening to assassinate Hamas’ supreme political leader Khaled Mishaal.

The threat was uttered by Avi Dichter the Israeli internal security minister as he was speaking to the Hebrew radio Monday where he also opined that Mishaal and Mohammed Al-Dhaif the general commander of Hamas’ armed wing the Qassam Brigades were easy targets that could be reached any time.

“We have reached them (Mishaal and Dhaif) before and they know that we can reach them in the future” Dichter was quoted as saying on the radio but he acknowledged that killing both Hamas’ figures couldn’t solve Israel’s “problems”.

In 1997 two agents of the Israeli Mossad (external intelligence) attempted to assassinate Mishaal in the Jordanian capital Amman by spraying poisonous substance in his ear; however the attempt was botched by the bodyguard of Mishaal who chased and arrested the Mossad agents and saved Mishaal’s life.

Dichter also threatened to kill PA premier Ismail Haneyya if according to him he (Haneyya) sidelined with the Palestinian resistance and gave orders to carry out armed operations against Israel.

But six months ago the Israeli occupation government threatened to assassinate Haneyya and members of his previous Hamas-led PA government describing him as one of the most prominent political leaders of Hamas.

In 2003 Haneyya was targeted by Israeli warplanes that dropped a heavy bomb at the house of Hamas’ senior political leader MP Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar where he (Haneyya) was meeting with Zahhar and the late Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmad Yassin.

None of the three was hurt but the eldest son of Zahhar was killed in the raid.

In addition to Dichter’s threats the Israeli fanatic minister for strategic affairs Avigdor Lieberman urged his occupation government to either dismantle Hamas or to topple the PA unity government.

In statements he made and published by the Hebrew Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper Lieberman urged his government to reoccupy the Rafah crossing and to have an international force stationed along Gaza-Egypt borders.
