Israel to expand Gilo settlement with 104 housing units

Monday 11-October-2021

The Hebrew media has revealed a new Israeli plan to build 104 housing units in the illegal settlement of Gilo southeast of Occupied Jerusalem.

Israel’s Channel 7 said that Karta real estate company would build these units and several commercial structures adding that the new settlement expansion project is expected to cost hundreds of millions of shekels.

According to the channel Karta chairman Amichai Neiman described the project as “strategically important” as “it would be located at one of the highest points of the holy city along the light railway and with a breathtaking view.”

He pointed out that this project is part of other projects to be carried out by his company across Jerusalem that include the construction of thousands of settler homes.

Gilo is located on West Bank land that Israel annexed unilaterally to Jerusalem and still constitutes occupied territory. Therefore under international law Gilo’s status is no different than those of any other Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
