Israeli Minister of Agriculture Uri Ariel on Monday forced his way into al-Aqsa Mosque compound under heavy military protection.
Palestinian sources said that 50 settlers stormed the Islamic site into different groups via al-Magharibeh gate.
Ariel a member of the right-wing Jewish Home party led one group into the Al-Aqsa courtyard under heavy security measures according to the sources.
55 Jewish students and 6 police officials in civilian clothing also stormed al-Aqsa this morning.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently lifted a three-year ban on government officials and Knesset members visiting the site.
In October 2015 Netanyahu banned MKs from entering the Al-Aqsa compound in an effort to calm Jerusalem Intifada that broke out across Israel-occupied West Bank as a result of repeated incursions by Jewish settlers into the site.
