Israeli army closes Ibrahimi Mosque for Jewish celebrations

Wednesday 22-September-2021

The Israeli occupation army on Tuesday announced the closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil City to Muslim worshipers for some days to allow Jewish settlers to celebrate a religious event.

Director of the Mosque Sheikh Hafdi Abu Sneina said the Israeli army informed the administration of the Ibrahimi Mosque of its intent to close the Mosque on Tuesday night and until midnight next Friday.

Abu Sneina added that scores of Jewish settlers would defile the Mosque during the coming days to mark what they call the Sukkot occasion.

Meanwhile the Israeli army imposed movement restrictions on the Palestinians at the entrances to the Old City of al-Khalil at the pretext of securing the area for Jewish celebrations.

This was the third Israeli closure of the Ibrahimi Mosque during the current month on allegations of allowing settlers to enter the holy site to mark religious occasions.

After the 1994 massacre of 29 Palestinian worshippers inside the Mosque by Jewish terrorist Baruch Goldstein the IOA imposed its control over the Islamic holy site and divided it between Muslims and Jewish settlers.

Since early September the Israeli army has imposed a ban on Muslims to recite the call to prayer (Adhan) from their holy site at the pretext that the settlers living [illegally] in al-Khalil feel disturbed by the Adhan sound.
