Israeli army to raze more homes structures in Masafer Yatta

Wednesday 8-June-2022

The Israeli occupation army notified on Tuesday a number of Palestinian citizens in Masafer Yatta south of al-Khalil of its intent to demolish their homes and structures.

Local official Rateb al-Jabour said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed at-Tabban hamlet in Masafer Yatta and handed the residents demolition orders against four homes one cattle shed and eight wells used to collect water.

Jabour added that the villagers were given 96 hours to evacuate the homes and structures pointing out that four families including children would be rendered homeless if the demolition measures were carried out.

Meanwhile the IOF handed a Palestinian woman in Zif village in southern al-Khalil a stop-work notice ordering her stop building a water well.

Another citizen also received a stop-work notice ordering him to stop building a water well and an agricultural structure in the same village.

The Israeli army has recently intensified demolitions and evictions of Palestinians in Masafer Yatta (a cluster of Bedouin communities) in the southern West Bank following a court ruling in early May that approved the displacement of thousands of local residents to officially make way for a military training zone.

Dozens of Palestinian families have become homeless after several homes and structures in Masafer Yatta were destroyed in recent days.

However since early 1981 when Israel declared the area a military firing and training zone residents of the Masafer Yatta region have been facing every once in a while demolitions property seizures expulsion threats harassment movement restrictions and disruptions of food and water supplies.
