Israeli artillery bombs observation posts in Gaza

Monday 17-August-2020

The Israeli occupation army at dawn Monday bombed two observation posts in the besieged Gaza Strip with no reported casualties.

According to local sources the Israeli artillery fired at least two shells at an observation post in the east of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza and another post in the east of Khan Yunis in the south.

A spokesman for the Israeli army claimed the new attacks were in response to angry night protests along the border and dozens of fires in Israeli areas throughout the day caused by incendiary balloons from Gaza.

In recent days dozens of aerial and artillery attacks were launched on Gaza after local youths protesting the blockade on Gaza used balloons to set fire to bushy areas and swaths of agricultural lands in Israeli areas.

The authorities in Gaza describe the flying of balloons carrying incendiaries towards Israel by young men as acts of protest against Israel’s failure to honor previous ceasefire pledges to ease the blockade on Gaza and its persistence in attacking fishermen.

A delegation from Egypt’s intelligence service which previously mediated between Israel and Hamas are expected to arrive in Gaza on Monday according to Israeli news reports.
