Israeli tanks stationed near Gaza’s eastern border fence on Sunday evening opened fire at different sites including a resistance post east of Beit Lahia city in the northern Gaza Strip.
No injuries were reported the PIC reporter said.
This attack followed the Hebrew TV channel 14’s announcement that the Israeli Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted a barrage of rockets fired from northern Gaza.
Spokesman for al-Qassam Brigades Hamas’s armed wing Abu Ubaida affirmed that no rockets were fired at Israel and that the Iron Dome system was mistakenly activated by a live-fire military exercise by the Brigades within Gaza on Sunday.
Abu Ubaida in a brief statement said that Israel bears responsibility for any escalation in the Gaza Strip stressing that the Palestinian resistance will respond to any aggression on the enclave.
The Hebrew website 0404 reported that a state of alert prevailed in the Israeli settlements surrounding Gaza especially Sha’ar Hanegev.
An Israeli army spokesman said that no rockets were fired at Israel and that the Iron Dome missile defense system was activated by automatic gunfire within Gaza.
Yedioth Ahronoth website said that the Israeli army will investigate the technical reason why the Iron Dome was activated firing dozens of unnecessary and expensive interceptors without the presence of any real threat.
