Israeli attack on al-Aqsa condemned by world community

The Israeli brutal attack on al-Aqsa Mosque on Friday which led to the injury of 150 worshipers and the arrest of more than 400 triggered international condemnation.

Egypt

Egypt has condemned the Israeli forces storming of al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the violent acts they committed against the Palestinians in its compound.

In a statement the Egyptian Foreign Ministry called for self-restraint to fully protect the Muslim worshipers and allow them to perform their Islamic rituals in al-Aqsa Mosque as a “a purely Islamic endowment for Muslims”.

The ministry also reiterated rejection of all forms of violence and incitement including the calls for storming the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan.

Jordan & Palestine

Jordan and Palestine on Friday called the ongoing escalation in al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem “dangerous” and urged Israel to stop all its “illegal and provocative” measures.

The warning came during a phone call between Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and the Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Hussein al-Sheikh hours after the Israeli police stormed al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry the two officials agreed that the storming of the al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli army and police is a “dangerous escalation that threatens to explode the situation.

Turkey

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned the killing of seven Palestinians by Israeli forces.

“We find it unacceptable and strongly condemn the killing of seven Palestinians one of them a child by Israeli security forces in different cities in Palestine especially Jenin and the attacks on Muslims in al-Aqsa Mosque causing injuries” the ministry said in a statement.

“We are deeply concerned about the increasing tensions in the region in recent days” the statement added reiterating the need to respect the sanctity of al-Aqsa especially during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Ankara also extended condolences to the civilians who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Iran

Iran strongly condemned “the Zionist attack on Palestinian holy sites at al-Aqsa Mosque on the second Friday of Ramadan.”

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh warned against the “continuation of brutal and terrorist acts by Zionist forces in the Occupied Lands of Palestine.”

“The crimes of the Zionists against the oppressed people of Palestine show the growing weakness of this occupying regime aimed at covering up its hollow power” the spokesman said.

Khatibzadeh added that such crimes are a clear violation of international law and human rights.

The United States

The United States expressed its “deep concern” over the Friday morning “violence” at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

“We call on all sides to exercise restraint avoid provocative actions and rhetoric and preserve the historic status quo on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount” the State Department said in a statement.

“We urge Palestinian and Israeli officials to work cooperatively to lower tensions and ensure the safety of everyone” the statement continued.

“The State Department is closely following developments and will continue to be in close contact with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials to seek to de-escalate tensions.”

The United Nations

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday voiced grave concern over the deteriorating security situation in Jerusalem and called for efforts to de-escalate the tension said his spokesman.

The secretary-general called on leaders on all sides to help calm the situation. Provocations on the holy site sacred to both Jews and Muslims must stop to prevent further escalation said Stephane Dujarric the spokesman in a statement.

Guterres reiterated his call for the status quo at the holy sites in Jerusalem to be upheld and respected said the statement.

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland is in close contact with key regional partners and the parties to calm the situation.

Guterres reiterated his commitment to supporting Palestinians and Israelis to resolve the conflict on the basis of relevant UN resolutions international law and bilateral agreements said the statement.

The European Union

The European Union called for an immediate end to the violence in the occupied West Bank following clashes at the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

“Violence needs to stop immediately” Peter Stano the lead spokesperson of the EU’s diplomatic service said in a statement.

He expressed deep concern over the upsurge of violence across the occupied West Bank and stressed that it is a priority to prevent further civilian casualties.

“The status quo of the holy sites must be fully respected” Stano asserted.

The Arab League

Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit warned against the fallout of the Israeli storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the attacks on Muslim worshipers.

Denouncing the Israeli aggression on the Palestinians earlier Friday Abul-Gheit expressed solidarity with the Palestinians residents of Jerusalem for their valiant resistance to the attempts to Judaize the holy city.

He held the Israeli occupation forces accountable for the serious aggression on the Palestinian people and violating their religious rights during the holy month of Ramadan.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday castigated the Israeli occupation forces’ bursting into al-Aqsa Mosque and roughing up devotees inside the compound where scores of Palestinians were wounded or apprehended.

The OIC said in a statement that the dangerous escalation is tantamount to an aggression on ‘sentiments of the whole Muslim nation and a blatant breach of international resolutions and charters.’

It held the Israeli occupation authority fully responsible for repercussions of such daily crimes and offensives against the Palestinian people their territories and sanctities.

Al-Azhar

Egypt’s top Islamic authority Al-Azhar condemned the Israeli attacks against Palestinians along with storming al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Azhar also denounced what it described as the ‘international community’s shameful silence’ vis-à-vis these attacks.

Al-Azhar extended its sincere condolences and sincere sympathy to the Palestinian people and the families of the martyrs. Al-Azhar also prayed to Allah to preserve Palestine and protect al-Aqsa Mosque from any harm.
