Israeli authorities carry out widespread demolitions in Negev

Tuesday 26-July-2022

The Israeli authorities carried out on Tuesday morning a large-scale demolition campaign and assaulted local residents in villages in the Negev desert.

According to local sources bulldozers escorted by Israeli police forces and employees from the Bedouin development authority stormed the village of Umm al-Rihan and embarked on demolishing a house with no prior notice.

The Israeli authorities razed the house despite the presence of a court verdict freezing a demolition order against it.

Local sources said that the bulldozers demolished other structures in the village without providing further details.

Meanwhile a large number of Israeli police forces stormed in the morning the Bedouin city of Rahat in Negev with no known reason but local sources said that the raid could involve arrests and demolitions in the coming hours.

A few days ago the Israeli authorities had demolished many homes and structures in different Negev villages which are designated as unrecognized areas.

There are more than 45000 homes in about 40 unrecognized villages threatened with demolition in the Negev desert.

Israel has been trying for many years to gather the local residents of these villages into one government-zoned town and take their areas for settlement projects.

In a separate incident the Israeli occupation army demolished on Tuesday two agricultural structures and one mobile home in Qusin town west of Nablus in the West Bank.

The army also razed a rural road in an area between the towns of Qusin and Deir Sharaf and blocked it with mounds of dirt and rocks. Local residents reportedly clashed with Israeli soldiers in the area.
