Israeli authorities demolish 20 Palestinian shops in Shu’fat

Wednesday 21-November-2018

The Israeli authorities on Wednesday morning demolished 20 Palestinian shops in Shu’fat refugee camp northeast of Occupied Jerusalem.

Israeli bulldozers escorted by dozens of policemen stormed Shu’fat early in the morning and demolished the shops for allegedly being unlicensed.

Local sources said that limited clashes erupted in the camp and Israeli snipers climbed the rooftops of the houses neighboring the demolished facilities.

The sources added that the Israeli police further closed the main entrance to Shu’fat and blocked the movement of the camp’s residents.

Hemaya Center for Human Rights strongly condemned Israel’s demolition policy pursued against the Palestinians in Jerusalem on a regular basis.

Hemaya stressed that the international community’s silence vis-à-vis Israel’s policies against the Palestinians has encouraged it to commit further violations of the international humanitarian law.

It also called on the international community especially the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities and work towards finding a mechanism that compels Israel to respect the international law and UN resolutions on the Palestinian issue in general and Jerusalem in particular.
