Israel’s Jerusalem municipality on Sunday forced a Palestinian citizen to demolish his own house in Jabal al-Mukabber town south of Jerusalem City.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that Sayel Ja’abis was forced to demolish his home which was built four years ago over alleged unlicensed construction.
Ja’abis’s lawyer has repeatedly attempted to freeze the demolition order but there was no response from Israeli courts.
Ja’abis had to carry out the demolition himself to avoid paying a steep fine to the Israeli authorities since the demolition operation costs tens of thousands of shekels.
In 2019 about 50 Palestinian families were forced to demolish their houses in Jerusalem.
While the Israeli municipality prevents any Palestinian construction activity in Jerusalem the settlement construction and expansion are in full swing in the holy city.
