Israeli court recommends freezing administrative detention of Shuka

Wednesday 1-August-2018

The Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs has said there is an Israeli intention to end the administrative detention of hunger-striking prisoner Hasan Shuka.

In a statement released on Tuesday the commission said that the judge of the military court of appeal in Ofer southwest of Ramallah recommended freezing the administrative detention of Shuka in a letter sent to the commander of the military district.

The commission added that the judge of the Ofer court considered the serious health condition of hunger striker Shuka who is currently in an Israeli hospital.

The commission said that lawyer Ahlam Haddad who was assigned to the prisoner’ case affirmed there was a recommendation about freezing the administrative detention of Shuka due to his health condition.

The commission asserted that prisoner Shuka suffers from multiple health problems which worsened as a result of his hunger strike.

For his part Issa Qaraqea head of the commission said that prisoner Hasan Shuka would not suspend his open-ended hunger strike despite an Israeli decision to freeze his administrative detention.

Qaraqea told a local radio station that the decision to freeze Shuka’s administrative detention was an Israeli game intended only to make the prisoner end his hunger strike in order for his health to improve before renewing his detention again.
