Israeli court rejects Tamimi request for early release

Wednesday 6-June-2018

The Israeli High Court’s parole board turned down on Wednesday a request by Palestinian teen Ahed Tamimi who is serving eight months in prison for slapping an Israeli soldier.

In explaining its decision the board cited a “lack of regret the severity of the offenses and an assessment of the danger she poses” as pretexts for the rejection.

Ahed Tamimi 17 and her cousin Nur Tamimi 21 were filmed slapping a heavily-armed Israeli soldier during clashes in the village of Nabi Saleh in the central occupied West Bank.

Ahed Tamimi incarcerated since December 19 was charged with assaulting the soldier. She was sentenced to eight months in prison and ordered to pay a steep fine.
