The Israeli higher court of justice on Thursday turned down the request filed by the lawyer of hunger-striking prisoner Maher al-Akhras to consider the seriousness of his health condition and approve his transfer to a hospital in the occupied West Bank.
According to Muhjat al-Quds Foundation for Martyrs and Prisoners the court rejected a request for Akhras’s release or his transfer to a Palestinian hospital in the West Bank.
Muhjat al-Quds described the court’s rejection of the request as a slow death sentence against the hunger striker.
The health condition of prisoner Akhras has reached a life-threatening stage because of his prolonged hunger strike which he started 95 days ago in protest at his detention administratively and his refusal to take any vitamins or fluids.
