Israeli gov’t extends ban on reunion of Palestinian families

Thursday 20-March-2014

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– The Israeli occupation government on Wednesday extended its citizenship law that prevents the reunion of Palestinian families.

This law has been used by Israel for 12 years to prevent Palestinian families from having normal lives with each other under one roof.

Adalah center which has started taking legal action against the law with the Israeli higher court since 2003 said that the Israeli government continues to prevent Palestinian families from living free and decent lives and dismember them.

It added that the extension of such racist law violates the basic human rights of Palestinian families.

For his part Arab Knesset member Jamal Zahalka stated that the law blatantly violates the Palestinians’ right to equality and dignity and their right to establish a family.

“There is no limit for the Zionist government’s moral and humanitarian blindness which insists on extending the citizenship law that prevents the reunion of the Palestinian families tears them apart and deprives them of living a normal life” Zahalka said.

“For 12 years the Israeli government has never felt ashamed of separating a mother from her sons and a husband from his wife and then blatantly claims before the world that it is a democratic state” he added.
