Israeli gunboats attack Gazan fishermen

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked on Thursday morning Palestinian fishermen off the northern coast of Gaza and forced them to return ashore.

According to local sources Israeli gunboats opened intensive machinegun fire at fishermen and their boats during their presence within three nautical miles off the shore of as-Sudaniya area.

No one was reportedly hurt in the shooting attack.

Israeli naval forces and their gunboats are around Gaza fishermen almost every day harassing them shooting at them damaging their boats and making arrests. Sometimes fishermen are injured or killed during gunfire attacks.

In a separate incident the IOF kidnaped in the morning three Palestinian citizens near the border fence in southern Gaza.

According to local sources Israeli soldiers rounded up three citizens after they approached the fence in the east of Khan Yunis.

According to local sources Israeli gunboats opened intensive machinegun fire at fishermen and their boats during their presence within three nautical miles off the shores of northern Gaza.

Luckily no one was hurt in the shooting attack.

Israeli gunboats also harassed fishermen and tore off their nets as they were working off the southern shores of Gaza.

Israeli naval forces and their gunboats are around Gaza fishermen almost every day harassing them shooting at them damaging their boats and making arrests. Sometimes fishermen are injured or killed during gunfire attacks.

Under the 1993 Oslo accords Palestinian fishermen are permitted to fish up to 20 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza but since then Israel has kept reducing the fishing area gradually to a limit between six to three nautical miles as part of its blockade on Gaza.

Fishermen and human rights groups also say that since the 2008-09 war in Gaza the Israeli army has been regularly enforcing a limit even closer to the shore.

Israeli gunboats on Monday morning opened fire at Palestinian fishermen and tried to sink their boats using water cannons during their presence off the coast of Gaza City.

According to local sources the gunboats attacked the fishermen as they were working within only three nautical miles off the shore of as-Sudaniya area in the north of Gaza City.

Naval forces fired live ammunition and water cannons at the fishermen’s boats and forced them to return ashore.

One fishing boat reportedly sustained damage during the attack.
