Israeli occupation navy opened fire on Sunday morning at Palestinian fishermen sailing off Gaza’s northern seashore.
Local sources said Israeli naval forces unleashed heavy spates of machine gunfire toward Palestinian fishermen navigating within the authorized nautical miles.
Based on the Oslo Accords signed by the Palestine Liberation Organization and Israel in 1993 Gaza fishermen have the right to fish and sail within a 20-nautical-mile area. However Israel has reduced the fishing zone to three nautical miles only.
The Israeli navy routinely attacks fishermen sailing off Gaza’s waters in a violation of the ceasefire accord struck in the wake of the 2014 Israeli offensive on the besieged enclave.
