Israeli gunboats open fire at Gazan fishermen

Sunday 4-June-2017

The Israeli navy forces opened fire on Sunday at Palestinian fishermen off the shores of the central and southern Gaza Strip with no injuries reported.

Fishermen told the PIC reporter in the southern Gaza Strip that Israeli navy gunboats opened fire at the boats of a number of fishermen who were sailing within the allowed fishing distance forcing them to return to the shore.

They added that the Israeli occupation boats deliberately target fishermen in the Gaza Sea and prevent them from practicing their work by shooting at them chasing them and seizing their boats.

Dozens of Gazan fishermen were killed injured and arrested as a result of such practiceover the past few years.

Israeli gunboats open fire at Gazan fishermen

Wednesday 12-November-2014

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats opened heavy fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of the Gaza Strip at the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Local sources said that Israeli navy forces shot at the boats off the shores of Beit Lahia town to the north of the Strip.

No injuries were reported during the attack as the fishing boats were forced to escape under heavy fire.

A similar attack was reported on Tuesday night in the same area with no injuries suffered.

Two months on from the ceasefire that ended a 51-day Israeli bombardment of Gaza human rights defenders have accused Israel of routinely violating the terms of the agreement that ended the hostilities including 18 shooting incidents and four others in which fishermen were chased and arrested.

As part of the 26 August ceasefire agreement Palestinian fishermen were to be permitted to work up to 6 nautical miles from shore. Yet according to a human rights center all the documented attacks in September “took place within the distance of 6 nautical miles.”
