Israeli intelligence department busy in drawing schemes to strengthen Abbas

Saturday 23-June-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– Hebrew sources have revealed that the Israeli intelligence departments were busy in formulating and drawing plans to beef up military and monetary strength of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to confront Hamas Movement.

According to the Hebrew radio security departments in the Hebrew state are working hard on formulating a number of recommendations in this regard including easing restrictions on Abbas’s aides’ movements in the West Bank and supplying his forces with weapons and money among other recommendations.

The radio further revealed that the recommendations will be presented to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his new war General Ehud Barak before the anticipated Israeli-PA-Jordanian-Egypt summit in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt on Monday.

According to the sources Israel wants to revive security coordination between Israeli security departments and PA security apparatuses with the aim to chase and terminate Palestinian resistance elements and to thwart any Palestinian attack on Israel.

Moreover the Israeli intelligence urged Olmert’s government to gradually release hundreds of millions of PA tax-revenue funds to Abbas and his security forces.

The funds legally belong to the PA unity government under Premier Ismail Haneyya but Israel held those money sums as part of the 18-month-old US-led economic embargo on the Palestinian people that was imposed at Israel’s request.

Few days ago Abbas dissolved the PA unity government without any constitutional basis as many legal observers believed and appointed an emergency government without securing the approval of the elected parliament as mandated by the PA basic law rendering such government illegitimate.

The USA Israel and the EU in addition to many Arab countries promptly recognized the illegitimate government and vowed to end the economic embargo on it.

Televised scandal:
On the other hand the Aqsa satellite TV channel broadcasted a televised recording showing Abbas while giving direct shoot-to-kill orders against Palestinian resistance fighters retaliating to IOF troops’ aggressions in Gaza and the West Bank.

“If you spot anyone intending to fire a rocket on Israel you beat him… you kill him… you shoot him…” Abbas was shown as saying to his security heads in the recording.

The clip also showed Abbas lieutenants telling him that they have a big army that could easily and speedily beat Hamas and finish it off.

But the recording generated a state of disgruntlements among the Palestinian populace as many of them had frankly confirmed that they are “ashamed to have one like Abbas to be their president”.

Abbas had repeatedly branded Palestinian resistance missiles as “futile” and described armed attacks on Israel as “mean”.

However Israeli sources acknowledged that the simple Palestinian homemade missiles had proven its effectiveness in inflicting damage on Israeli installations and in generating unstable and unsafe conditions to Israeli settlers in the settlements around Gaza Strip.
