Monday 20-November-2006

Ramallah – The Israeli military court in Salem detention center on Monday extended the detention of PA finance minister Professor Omar Abdul Razek and ten PLC deputies for 70 days after adjourning their trial to 30th January 2007.

Osama Al-Saadi the lawyer of the PA officials said that the court adjourned the trial without giving any reason or explanation and did not allow the media into the court.

For his part Wasfi Kabaha the PA minister of prisoners’ affairs affirmed the illegitimacy of the court and the trial. He explained that those held in occupation jails were Palestinian people’s representatives who were elected in a democratic election process witnessed by the entire world that testified for its integrity and transparency.

Kabaha charged that this was the first time elected deputies stand trial for their political affiliation affirming that the world community should live up to its responsibility and to seriously seek their release.

The minister appealed to the world parliamentarians human rights associations and international organizations to swiftly intervene to demand the immediate release of the ministers and MPs.
