Israeli municipality seizes Palestinian-owned land in Silwan

Friday 17-February-2017

The Israeli municipal authority in Occupied Jerusalem on Thursday decided to appropriate a plot of land belonging to a Palestinian family in Silwan district east of the holy city claiming it would be used for public benefit.

According to Wadi Hilweh Information Center an Israeli municipal crew placed a sign on the site reading in Arabic and Hebrew: “This is an order to use an empty piece of land for gardening purposes.”

The center affirmed that this land belongs to the family of Ghizlan and measures about 300 square meters pointing out that the Israeli municipality had already classified the land as a green area where construction is prohibited.

The Israeli municipality claimed this land would be used temporarily for five years in accordance with the local law for the purpose of planting trees and installing irrigation systems and playground equipment.

According to the Israeli confiscation order the land owner could file an objection against the measure within 90 days.
