Israeli navy confiscates Gaza fishermen’s boat

Saturday 27-November-2021

Israeli navy on Friday night intercepted a Palestinian boat carrying five fishermen while off Gaza shores and detained two of them after initially holding all five.

Gaza’s fishermen syndicate affirmed that the Israeli navy confiscated the boat and held the five fishermen who were on board all from the same al-Hissi family.

Three of them were later released while two fishermen were taken away it added.

Israel has maintained a blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007. It imposes tight restrictions on the work of fishermen off the coast of the Gaza Sea citing security reasons.

Gaza has approximately 3000 fishermen of whom only 800 work on some 700 boats. Some 70000 Palestinians in Gaza make a living directly or indirectly from fishing according to official Palestinian statistics.
