The Israeli occupation navy on Tuesday evening kidnapped two Palestinian fishermen and confiscated their boat off Gaza’s northern shore.
The local committee to monitor Israeli violations against Gaza fishermen said the Israeli navy gunboats chased down a fishing boat off al-Sudaniya shore in northern Gaza Strip and kidnapped the Palestinian fishermen Abdul Hafedh Amar and Amar Assaad al-Sultan before they toed their boat to the Israeli-controlled Ashdod seaport.
Fishing is the sole source of income for 4000 Palestinian fishermen in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
Israel allows Gazans to set sail within a three-nautical-mile zone only which does not meet the needs of 50000 families whose survival largely hinges on fishing.
According to Gaza’s Fishermen Union 120 fishermen have been arrested by the Israeli navy since the start of 2016 and ten others have been left wounded. Several had their boats confiscated in Israeli navy attacks.
