Israeli navy opens fire at anti-siege boats off Gaza shore

Saturday 11-August-2018

Israeli naval forces on Saturday evening heavily opened fire at a group of anti-siege boats that set sail from Gaza port toward the 1948 occupied Palestine in protest at Israeli blockade.

The PIC reporter said that 40 ‘Freedom’ vessels having on board dozens of Palestinian activists were attacked by Israeli gunboats adding that one of the activists was slightly injured by a rubber bullet.

Spokesman for the National Committee to Break the Siege Adham Abu Salmiya said during a press conference at Gaza port that the sea march sends a message that any solution that does not involve lifting the siege on Gaza will never be accepted.

Representative for the Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the siege Wajih Abu Zarifa said that the Palestinian people in Gaza will not pay any political price in exchange for lifting the blockade.

The Gaza Strip has been living under crippling blockade since 2006. According to European reports 40% of the Gazan people live below the poverty line while 80% of them depend on humanitarian aid to live.
