Israeli police arrest Palestinians trying to protect Islamic site

Sunday 5-August-2018

Israeli police on Sunday arrested five Palestinian citizens inside Bab al-Rahma cemetery near al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.

Quds Press said quoting activist Khaled Abu Tayeh that the Israeli police arrested five youths who confronted two Israeli settlers attempting to destroy graves in the Islamic cemetery.

Tayeh said that the five youths were transferred to an Israeli police center near al-Asbat Gate.

Bab al-Rahma cemetery is established on a land that has been classified as Islamic endowment for over 1400 years.

Israel’s Antiquities Authority in the recent years has prevented the Palestinian citizens of Silwan town in Jerusalem from burying their dead in the cemetery because there is a planned project to turn parts of the Islamic cemetery into biblical gardens.
