OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– Large numbers of Israeli policemen on Wednesday raided the sit-in tent pitched in Wadi Al-Joz in occupied Jerusalem and arrested Sheikh Raed Salah the leader of the Islamic Movement in the 1948 areas.
The PIC correspondent in the area reported that the policemen fired sonic bombs and teargas canisters into the tent pitched to protest the Israeli excavations at the Aqsa Mosque in order to disperse the protestors.
An Israeli court in occupied Jerusalem had summoned Sheikh Salah to attend a hearing into a case charging him with assaulting an Israeli policeman.
Hebrew press reports said that the court would open the hearing into his case on Sunday afternoon.
The same court three weeks ago had banned Sheikh Salah from approaching the Aqsa Mosque for 60 days at a time he was spearheading a campaign to expose the Israeli diggings which he said threatened the foundations of the holy site. The excavations ignited an Arab and Islamic uproar.
