Tuesday 22-February-2022

Israeli police officers on Monday afternoon assaulted Mohamed al-Ajlouni a Palestinian young man with Down’s syndrome in the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah because he shouted against the Israeli occupation.

Footage from Sheikh Jarrah showed police officers subduing and violently dealing with 25-year-old Ajlouni with no regard for his condition and his screaming and panic before local residents intervened and prevented his detention.

A Red Crescent paramedic who gave Ajlouni on-site medical assistance affirmed that more than five policemen gathered around the young man severely beat him and pulled him forcefully to arrest him but local residents rushed to protect him and managed to take him away from their hands.

According to the paramedic Ajlouni was then transferred to the Makassed Hospital in the neighboring neighborhood of at-Tur after suffering from a state of panic and severe pains in his neck and shoulder.

Bara’a al-Ajlouni the young man’s sister said that she and her family were shocked when they saw the video footage that showed the police assault on her brother asserting that he became silent introverted and traumatized after the incident.
