Israeli police on Wednesday decided to ban two Jerusalemites from entering al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem for 15 days.
Palestinian activist Fadi al-Metawwar said that he was interrogated by the Israeli police from 9 am to 3 pm at al-Qashla detention center west of Jerusalem.
Al-Metawwar said that the Israeli interrogators accused him of “disrupting the system” disturbing the work of Israeli police at al-Aqsa Mosque and planning “acts of sabotage” inside the holy site.
“All surveillance cameras which they claim they convict me show that I was doing my daily job in al-Aqsa Mosque normally. Despite this they decided to ban me from entering the Mosque and the Old City for 15 days and force me to pay a 3000 NIS fine” he added.
Another Palestinian youth called Basel al-Khatib received a similar order banning him from entering the same places for 15 days.
Israeli police on Tuesday decided to ban eight Islamic Awqaf employees from entering al-Aqsa Mosque and detained others for allegedly disturbing the work of Israeli police at the Mosque.
Al-Metawwar said that these arbitrary measures are aimed at paving the way for settler celebrations at the Islamic site during upcoming Jewish holidays.
