Israeli police banish Jerusalemite official from Aqsa and Old City

Tuesday 9-February-2021

The Israeli occupation police on Monday issued a decision banning Mustafa Abu Zahra head of the Islamic cemeteries upkeep committee in Jerusalem from entering the Aqsa Mosque and the Old City for about two weeks.

Police officers detained Abu Zahra at the Aqsa Mosque’s Ghawanmeh Gate on the same day and hauled him in handcuffs to a police station in the holy city.

Later the police decided to release him on condition of staying away from the Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem for 15 days.

Despite the fact that they have no jurisdiction over the Islamic holy site the Israeli occupation authority and its police in Jerusalem give themselves the right to issue Aqsa entry bans against Muslim worshipers and take upon themselves to decide who can and cannot pray at the Mosque.

According to signed agreements Jordan is the custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
