The Israeli occupation police on Saturday night assaulted Jerusalemite citizens after they flocked to Bab al-Amud area in the Old City of Jerusalem and performed the Tarawih prayers.
According to local sources scores of foot and mounted police officers violently attacked Muslim worshipers in Bab al-Amud showered them with rubber bullets and tear gas and stun grenades chased them and arrested a number of them.
The Red Crescent said that its ambulance crews provided medical assistance for 12 wounded Palestinians during the events.
Video footage showed a large number of police forces encircling Palestinian youths in Bab al-Amud and al-Sahira areas of the Old City before attacking them.
Hundreds of Muslim worshipers flocked to Bab al-Amud Square near the Aqsa Mosque last night and performed the Tarawih prayers in defiance of the Israeli decision to ban the Palestinians from entering the area.
Earlier violent clashes broke in the evening between angry Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers at the main entrance to al-Ram town in the north of Jerusalem.
Eyewitnesses said that dozens of young men took to the streets to protest recent Israeli police and settler violence in Jerusalem when soldiers showered them with tear gas and stun grenades.
Similar clashes also happened in at-Tur neighborhood in the east of the Old City of Jerusalem.
