Israeli police lay siege to Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood

The Israeli occupation police last night stormed the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah raided homes and assaulted Palestinian citizens and activists.

According to local sources the Israeli police laid siege to the neighborhood and embarked on breaking into homes and brutalizing local residents and activists.

During the police raids in Sheikh Jarrah local youths showered the police forces with firecrackers.

Police forces in turn fired flares stun and tear gas grenades and rubber bullets at young protesters and activists.

Meanwhile police forces stormed homes belonging to the families of Atiya and Ghosheh who are facing eviction threats in Othman bin Affan street in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

They also raided the house of activist Mona and Mohamed al-Kurd in the neighborhood and expelled them and other activists from the place.

Earlier in the evening the police attacked a peaceful sit-in staged in solidarity with the families of Sheikh Jarrah who are facing Israeli attempts to evict them from their homes.

The police reportedly arrested a teenager identified as Mohamed Odeh during his participation in the sit-in.
