Israeli police quell protest in solidarity with Israa Ja’abis

Saturday 1-December-2018

The Israeli police on Saturday evening violently quelled a protest in Jerusalem in solidarity with the injured Palestinian detainee Israa Ja’abis.

The peaceful protesters chanted slogans calling for the immediate release of Ja’abis who needs to undergo urgent surgeries.

Local sources said that the Israeli police attacked the protesters with teargas canisters and stun grenades. No arrests or injuries were reported.

The Israel Prison Service refuses to allow Ja’abis to get the necessary treatment program she needs although her health condition has seriously deteriorated recently.

Ja’abis was arrested in 2015 after she was severely injured when a gas cylinder used in cooking exploded in the back seat of her car a few meters away from an Israeli military checkpoint.

Ja’abis was detained and transferred to Israeli jails without receiving proper treatment despite the fact that 60% of her body was burned.
