The Israeli police suppressed on Thursday a rally in solidarity with the people whose homes are threatened with eviction in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Occupied Jerusalem.
Local sources reported that the occupation police tried to prevent dozens of participants from demonstrating in front of a house whose owners are threatened with eviction in favor of settlement associations. The participants were asked to leave the place before they were attacked by the Israeli police.
During the rally the participants called for supporting the people of Sheikh Jarrah raising signs condemning the forced evacuation of the inhabitants of the neighborhood and affirming the right of Jerusalemites to prove their ownership of the land.
The residents carry out a weekly sit-in at the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood against the settlement policy and the seizure of homes.
Since 1972 the citizens of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood have been facing an Israeli plan to displace them and build a settlement in place of of their homes under the pretext that the land on which their homes were built by the Jordanian government was previously leased to Jewish families.
