Israeli prosecution indicts Arad anti-occupation attackers

Monday 1-January-2018

Israel’s intelligence agency Shin Bet said it has identified and indicted two Palestinian brothers who carried out an anti-occupation stabbing attack in Arad last month.

According to Israel’s Channel 2 a scene caught on video by security cameras installed in streets shows the attackers boarding a car and speeding toward a roundabout before they were tracked down identified and detained.

Last week a list of indictments filed by the Israeli prosecution against Khaled Abu Joudeh and his brother Zahi from Negev accused the two brothers of murder.

Khaled was charged with first-degree murder attempted murder and possession of a knife among other charges.

Zahi who the Shin Bet said acted as his brother’s accomplice and assisted him after the attack was indicted for attempted murder possession of a knife and obstruction of justice among other allegations.

As for Khaled’s motives the prosecution claimed he committed the attack out of a desire to do something on behalf of the Palestinians and Hamas.

Hebrew sources said Khaled’s original plan was not to stab a soldier but to kidnap one for future prisoner-swap deals. For as-yet unknown reasons Khaled abandoned this plan and instead plotted to kill an Israeli soldier and steal his gun.
