An Israeli female soldier was proclaimed dead at dawn Sunday following the shooting operation that targeted on Saturday evening the Shuafat checkpoint in the east of Occupied Jerusalem.
According to the Hebrew media an Israeli border police spokesperson said that a female soldier was killed as a result of being critically injured by a shooting attack at the Shuafat checkpoint.
The police spokesperson explained that the soldier was evacuated to a hospital for medical treatment but she was declared dead later after efforts to save her life failed.
“A suspect arrived at the Shuafat crossing and fired at the security forces in addition a shot was fired from a passing vehicle. Border guard forces are searching for the suspects” the spokesperson added.
For their part Israeli medical sources said that a security man in serious condition was also transferred to a hospital and another female was treated at the scene and now is in mild condition.
The Israeli occupation police used helicopters last night to help troops on the ground search for the shooters.
Following the shooting incident a Palestinian driver reportedly tried to ram his car into a group of Israeli soldiers in the east neighborhood of at-Tur.
The car is believed to be the same used in the shooting operation at the Shuafat checkpoint according to Israel’s Channel 12.
Consequently Israeli police forces closed the checkpoint immediately after the incident and detained for a while a number of Palestinian citizens in the area.
Palestinian local sources said that resistance fighters opened fire three times at Israeli forces following the shooting operation including during a police raid on Shuafat refugee camp last night.
Meanwhile clashes broke out between local youths and Israeli police forces near the checkpoint and in Shuafat camp following the shooting incident.
