An Israeli soldier was killed in the occupied West Bank in the predawn hours of Tuesday morning after being struck in the head by a large rock during an arrest campaign the Israeli occupation army said.
According to the Times of Israel website the soldier Amit Ben-Yigal was a member of the Golani reconnaissance battalion which carried out a series of raids on homes and arrested four Palestinians overnight in the West Bank town of Ya’bad west of Jenin.
As the troops were making their way out of the village on foot following the arrests a small group of roughly 10 Palestinian youths started throwing stones at them an army spokesperson told the Hebrew media
The army spokesperson claimed that the rock that killed 21-year-old Ben-Yigal appeared to have been thrown from the roof of one of the homes on the outskirts of the town which has often seen clashes between residents and soldiers.
“The rock hit the soldier directly in the head. The soldier was wearing a helmet. But it hit him at an angle” the spokesperson said.
During the campaign the Israeli occupation forces raided several homes and kidnaped four young men from the families of Abu Shamla and Abu Baker.
