Israeli warplanes launch three raids on Palestinian-Egyptian borders

Wednesday 4-March-2009

RAFAH (PIC)– Israeli warplanes launched three air raids on the Palestinian-Egyptian borders at an early hour on Wednesday in a fresh escalation of military strikes against the Gaza Strip.

Local sources told PIC reporter that three missiles at least were fired at the Rafah border strip south of Gaza but no casualties were reported.

Israeli military sources said that the raids targeted three tunnels claiming that one of the raids led to a series of explosions which indicated that combat means and ammunition were hidden in the place.

The local sources however strongly denied the allegation.

Nine Palestinians were wounded on Tuesday evening in the Israeli air raids that targeted the same border strip area; one of them was seriously injured.

Adel Zu’rub the spokesman of the Palestinian crossings and borders administration told PIC that medical and civil defense squads rushed to evacuate the casualties noting that the Israeli occupation forces used new bombs that spread “dangerous poisonous material”.

He said that the medical teams faced difficulties in dealing with the situation.

IOA refuses to release prisoner after serving his term
Meanwhile well informed sources revealed that the Israeli occupation authority was refusing to release a Palestinian prisoner from Gaza after serving his five-year sentence.

They said that the IOA said that the prisoner Adham Ali Hassan was declared an “unlawful combatant” which meant that he would be held indefinitely without any indictment and would be dealt with as a “war criminal” with no rights whatsoever.

Hassan was supposed to be released on Tuesday the sources pointed out.
