ISTANBUL (PIC)– Dr. Maan Bashor head of the preparation committee of the Quds International Gathering has affirmed Wednesday that the gathering that is scheduled on the 15th of next month in the Turkish city of Istanbul would attract massive attendance from more than 70 countries.
A number of Turkish organizations concerned about the issue of Jerusalem also participated in preparing for the conference that will last for three days according to the organizers.
Bashor had concluded an important visit to the city in company of Dr. Mohammed Akram Al-Adloni the secretary general of the Quds institution that called for the gathering in order to finalize preparations for the congress.
According to Bashor more than 2000 people from 70 countries have already confirmed their attendance of the conference including former presidents premiers ministers and lawmakers including at least 30 European legislators in addition to politicians intellectuals and social scientists among other participants.
He also explained that the conference will present concrete evidences on the suffering of the Palestinian people in the occupied city of Jerusalem under the Israeli occupation in addition to cultural and intellectual workshops that will discuss certain issues with the aim to keep the issue of Jerusalem that symbolizes the Palestinian issue alive in the international conscience.
According to organizers the conference is very important being a big Muslim-Christian gathering in support of Jerusalem similar to the NGOs conference that was held in the South African city of Durban in September 2000 where the participants declared Zionism as a racist movement.
Since the city of Jerusalem fell under the Israeli occupation in 1967 the successive Israeli occupation governments strived hard to distort Muslim and Arab landmarks in it and accelerated steps to Judaize the city including confiscating more Palestinian lands and expanding Israeli settlements on them among other Israeli measures with the aim to ensure demographic change in favor of Jews in the city.
