J’lem Awqaf warns of Israeli intents to close Bab al-Rahma

Wednesday 8-January-2020

The Islamic Awqaf Authority in Occupied Jerusalem has warned of Israel intents to reclose the Aqsa Mosque’s Bab al-Rahma prayer building.

In a press release the Awqaf Authority said that the Israeli police “filed a very serious lawsuit a few days ago seeking a court verdict renewing the closure of Bab al-Rahma.”

The Awqaf Authority in Jerusalem last February opened the Bab al-Rahma prayer building despite the Israeli police’s refusal.

The police closed Bab al-Rahma in 2003 claiming the site was being used by members of the Islamic Movement in Israel for political activities an allegation denied by the Islamic Awqaf.

The Awqaf Authority accused the Israeli occupation of making suspicious moves nowadays intended to pave the way for a new fait accompli at the Aqsa Mosque through assaulting arresting and banishing Palestinian worshipers at the Islamic holy site especially in its Bab al-Rahma area and eastern side.

The Awqaf Authority demanded the Israeli occupation authority to respect the religious historical and legal status quo at the Aqsa Mosque as well as its exclusive jurisdiction as an Islamic body over the entire Mosque compound and its outer walls.
