GAZA (PIC)– Arafat Jaradat’s martyrdom under torture in Israeli jails has set off alarm bells over the prisoners’ lives especially that a number of them are in real danger.
Abdel Nasser Farawana a researcher in prisoners’ affairs told PIC reporter that Jaradat’s martyrdom will not be the last in light of the continued Israeli policy of torture medical negligence ill-treatment denouncing the international silence towards the Israeli violations as if it is “a state above law.”
The death of captive Jaradat brought the number of prisoners who died in Israeli jails to 203 prisoners according to human rights institutions’ reports.
Farawana said that many Palestinian prisoners suffer chronic illnesses in Israeli jails putting their lives in real danger.
Concerning Jaradat’s death he said that the autopsy results proved the prisoner’s death was under extreme torture and not due to a cardiac arrest calling on everybody to assume their responsibilities regarding this crime.
The Palestinian prisoners still face a real danger in Israeli prisons in light of legalized torture in Israeli jails where prisoners are subjected to systematic and extreme torture during all stages of imprisonment especially in the interrogation stage which could last for many months.
Director of Al Mezan Center for Human Rights Issam Younis told PIC that “Israel is the only country in the world that legalizes torture in contravention of international laws.”
Younis stresses that the Jaradat’s death “constitutes a war crime that cannot be legally justified.”
17 prisoners are now in real danger waiting for their death at any moment where they reside permanently in Ramle prison hospital suffering chronic health problems according to some human rights reports.
Farawana pointed out to the Palestinian striking prisoners whose health condition is sharply deteriorated noting that the effects of their hunger strike on their health will continue even after their release.
Farawana called for uniting the Palestinian decision towards Palestinian prisoners’ issues and to activate their cases in the international and global forums.
Many Palestinian prisoners had declared hunger strike protesting against their difficult situation in Israeli prisons led by Samer al-Issawi and Ayman al-Sharawna who went on hunger strike since 8 months.
The human rights researcher Younis confirmed that the occupation forces violate the international minimum standards in dealing with the prisoners in its jails.
Several Palestinian marches were launched to protest the Israeli crimes against Palestinian prisoners demanding the prosecution of the Israeli leaders as war criminals.
