Jerusalem’s Awqaf (Endowment) Department condemned in the strongest terms an arson attack on the Sacred Dome in Jerusalem’s al-Tour neighborhood.
The Awqaf Department slammed the attack as “a criminal act” targeting a sacred site for Christians and Muslims alike.
An emergency session is expected to be held by the Awqaf commission to follow up on the repercussions of the arson attack and the abduction of the Awqaf personnel from al-Aqsa Mosque.
Director-General of Jerusalem’s Awqaf Department Sheikh Azzam al-Khatib and an orthodox Archbishop popped at the site and inspected the damage wrought by the arson attack.
Following the visit Sheikh al-Khatib issued instructions to repair the dome immediately and briefed the Jordanian Awqaf Minister Dr. Wael Arabiyat on the incident.
