OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– The committee of relatives of Jerusalemite prisoners in Israeli jails and the Palestinian prisoner’s society organized a sit-in on Saturday in solidarity with their next of kin.
The participants called for the release of hunger striker Hana’a Shalabi and all prisoners who suffer harsh conditions behind bars.
Meanwhile lawyer of Makdisi institution Yassin Ghaith visited Jerusalemite prisoners who were moved en masse from Gilboa to Nafha desert prison.
He quoted prisoner Majdi Za’atari who is serving 23 life sentences plus 50 years since 2003 as saying that all 80 prisoners moved to Nafha were forced to clean up ward four that has been closed in Nafha for two years. He added that they continued to clean the ward until a late night hour on their first day of arrival.
Za’atari said that the 80 prisoners were distributed on 10 rooms adding that the rooms are small and had only one bath located in between the beds.
He said that water is cut off for six hours daily and the prisoners suffer from insect bites which they did not experience before. He opined that they were transferred to this prison as a punishment because of their solidarity with other prisoners and demanded their transfer out of it.
The lawyer recalled that an Israeli court had ordered the closure of this ward two years ago because it was not fit for humans.
