NAZARETH (PIC)– An Israeli court has convicted a Jewish Rabbi of indecent assault against a minor abusing his position of trust.
The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court convicted Rabbi Motti Elon a religious Jewish leader of committing an indecent act against a minor Yediot Ahranot Hebrew newspaper said.
Elon was indicted in late 2011 for offenses perpetrated in 2005. The prosecution claimed he abused his position as an educator and molested two teenagers on various occasions in 2003 and 2005 the newspaper added.
A few months ago the Israeli prosecution dropped one of the charges after one of the complainants refused to testify in court.
The issue shook the Jewish Religious establishment especially that Rabbi Elon occupies a prominent religious position.
A number of Israeli political and religious figures were convicted in acts of moral turpitude dishonesty or corruption.
