DAMASCUS (PIC)– Alan Johnston the BBC reporter who was freed in Gaza on Wednesday after four months in captivity made a telephone call to Khaled Mishaal Hamas’s supreme leader thanking him and his Movement for their efforts in securing his release.
Johnston told Mishaal that once Hamas controlled the Gaza Strip he sensed that his release was approaching especially that his kidnappers spoke in front of him on Hamas’s insistence on his safe release.
He also said that Hamas has managed to bring the security situation in Gaza under control and that was what prevented his kidnappers from keeping any longer in captivity. He stressed his appreciation of the movement and the Palestinian people despite the harsh experience that he has been through.
Mishaal for his part said that Hamas acted on its Islamic principles and moral values in the first place as Islam respects human life and dignity and secondly on its humanitarian beliefs especially that the Palestinian people have been one of the most suffering people in the world and know very well the meaning of captivity loss of freedom and being terrorized at the hands of the Israeli occupation that holds more than 11000 Palestinians including political leaders ministers MPs and mayors in its jails.
The Hamas leader further noted that Hamas’s position was also based on national beliefs because such kidnappings only harm the Palestinian national cause and allow it to be smeared by those who wish to portray Palestinian resistance against occupation as terrorism.
