Jordan on Saturday has asked the Arab League to hold an extraordinary meeting at the ministerial level on September 11 to discuss the financial crisis which UNRWA suffers from.
Jordanian ambassador to Cairo Ali al-Ayed said that his country submitted an official request in this regard to the presidency of the Arab League.
Ayed warned that the UNRWA’s serious financial deficit would prevent the agency from providing its humanitarian and educational services for more than five million Palestinian refugees in the five areas of its operations.
He affirmed that the intended meeting to be held for the Arab foreign ministers aims to emphasize the importance of providing the financial moral and political support for UNRWA to ensure continuity of its responsibility for the Palestinian refugees.
The ambassador affirmed that Jordan would continue to make every effort to mobilize political and financial support for the UN agency.
