The Jordanian authorities prevented on Friday a popular march that was scheduled to be organized after Friday prayer in protest against the gas deal with Israel.
The national campaign against the gas deal with Israel decided to postpone the demonstration which was planned to be in front of Grand al-Husseini Mosque after Friday prayer in Amman.
The campaign strongly condemned the Jordanian authorities’ decision not to grant permit for the demonstration considering it a violation of public freedoms and the constitutional rights.
The campaign vowed to continue protests against the gas deal till its abolition.
On September 26 Jordan’s National Electric Power Company signed the deal with US-based Noble Energy and Israeli partners for the import of approximately 1.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas per day over a 15-year term. Production is expected to begin around 2019 or 2020.
