The Jordanian government has strongly denounced the ongoing Israeli violations and provocative practices at the Aqsa Mosque.
According to Petra news agency spokeswoman for the government Jumana Ghunaimat condemned the Israeli police attack on Friday on Muslim worshipers and employees from the Jerusalem Awqaf Authority during a raid on the Mosque.
“Such reprehensible and unacceptable practices violate the sanctity of this sacred place and provoke the feelings of worshipers inside it and all Muslims around the world. They also contradict Israel’s obligations under international law and international humanitarian law as an occupying power in east Jerusalem” Ghunaimat said.
She also said that Israel’s aggressive practices at the Aqsa Mosque “violate all international conventions and norms that emphasize the need to respect places of worship of all religions.”
The spokeswoman stressed the need for respecting the historical and legal status of the Aqsa Mosque as well as its legitimate administration which is represented by the Jerusalem Awqaf Authority in order to maintain clam at the Islamic holy site.
The Jordanian official held the Israeli government fully responsible for the safety of the Aqsa Mosque and for any violations taking place against it demanding it to end its provocative actions at the Mosque and preserve the historical status of the Palestinian holy sites in east Jerusalem.
