Jordan to earmark over $2 million for gas pipeline from Israel

Sunday 31-December-2017

One and a half million dinars ($2.1 million) of Jordan’s 2018 budget will be earmarked to build a gas pipeline from the country to the supplier in Israel.

According to al-Ghad newspaper this allocation will be increased to three million dinars ($4.2 million) in 2019 and six million dinars ($8.5 million) in 2020 until it totals 11 million dinars in the next three years.

In September 2016 Jordan’s government-owned National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) signed an agreement with the US company Noble Energy under which the latter will provide 40 percent of the Kingdom’s gas needs for generating power.

Noble Energy owns 39 percent of the Leviathan natural gas field in Israel.
