AMMAN (PIC)– A Jordanian source speaking on condition of anonymity has revealed to the PIC correspondent in Amman that Jordanian prime minister Marouf Al-Bakheit received PA premier Ismail Haneyya at the Jordanian Marka airport last Tuesday.
According to the source Bakheit was accompanied by a number of his cabinet members and officials of the airport during the reception which he added no journalists were invited.
Dr. Ghazi Hamad the spokesman of the PA unity government had earlier affirmed that Haneyya will head to Amman and meet with Jordanian officials before going alongside PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to attend the Arab summit in Riyadh.
At the sideline of the summit Jordanian monarch king Abdullah II met Haneyya at his residence making it the first meeting between the two men since Haneyya formed and headed the PA government.
Furthermore Jordanian media sources revealed that PA foreign affairs minister Dr. Ziad Abu Amre is scheduled to visit Amman to meet with his Jordanian counterpart Abdul Elah Al-Khateeb to discuss issues of mutual concern.
The latest Jordanian behavior towards the PA government nevertheless grabbed the attention of a number of Jordanian officials including writer Fahad Al-Kheetan who opined that the monarch’s meeting with Haneyya serves as a “royal signal that must be well understood by the Jordanian government”.
In an interview with the PIC secretary-general of the Jordanian Islamic Action Front Zaki Bani Ersheid deplored what he tagged as the “policy of hesitation” that the Jordanian government was pursuing in dealing with the PA government.
“I believe there are a lot of encouraging factors to make our government deal transparently with the PA government including the Makkah accord and the concluded Arab summit among other incentives; but it seems that our hope in this regard is starting to retract” said the Jordanian Islamist.
