Thursday 23-February-2017

Palestinian Media Forum demanded inquiry into subjecting the Palestinian journalist Sami al-Sa’ee to over 15 types of torture during 20 days of remand over his journalistic work.

In a statement on Thursday the forum criticized press authorities referring to the syndicate of Palestinian Journalists which claimed that Sa’ee was not subjected to torture for being an accomplice in the affair.

Upon his release Sa’ee affirmed he was tortured in over 15 means of physical and psychological abuse. This included detention in solitary confinement making him sit or stand in a fixed position for long hours using handcuffs for long time hanging him in the dungeon’s ceiling pulling him with the mattress and beating including slapping in the face.

Other methods included beating on the feet and head. They were also asking him to walk like a dog Sa’ee said. Blackmail and bargaining for taking confessions in addition to the use of threats and charges were other kinds of torture.

Sa’ee was released on Wednesday after he was summoned by the PA intelligence apparatus on February 03 and transferred to Jericho jail which has a bad reputation of torture. His detention was maintained despite a judicial release order.
